Food: Biscuits and Gravy

The gloom is settling in again.  We actually had a couple of really beautiful crisp winter days.  The Hubs and I went on a little drive and took some pics and I'll post those later... but for now... comfort foods!!!  I am in cooking mode again.  One of my favorite easy things to make is my sweet/savory biscuits and gravy!!!

What you'll need:
Jimmy Dean Maple Sausage
Cinnamon Applesauce, or whichever one you like - 3 tbs
Butter - 2 tbs
Flour - 1 or 2 tbs
Milk - 2-3 cups
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Black pepper

Pillsbury biscuits or make your own from scratch

Preheat your oven and get your biscuits going.

Start browning the meat in a saute' pan.  I like mine with a little crisp and a lot crumbly, but if you like bigger chunks of sausage, do as you please.

Leave any drippings with the meat, add about 3 tablespoons of applesauce.  Sprinkle a tiny bit of nutmeg.  Add a tsp of cinnamon.  Grind in some black pepper.  Add a pad or two of butter.  Drizzle some flour or Wondra on the meat and keep stirring so the flour cooks.  Add little amounts of milk until it starts to thicken.  If you want to cheat, you can pre-mix a packet of McCormick's cream gravy and add that in instead of the flour, butter, milk.

Make sure your biscuits aren't burnt!!!
Dish it up!

I really hope you try this recipe!  It is so good and hearty and a different take on the usually very savory/peppery biscuits and sausage gravy!
Enjoy!!
